Compliance Specialist

Midwest Veterinary Supply is hiring a Compliance Specialist.  This role is fully remote but candidate must reside in one of the following states:  Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia & Wisconsin.

The Compliance Specialist supports and maintains regulatory compliance programs for a licensed veterinary pharmaceutical wholesale distributor. This role helps ensure adherence to federal and state regulations, including DSCSA requirements, pharmaceutical supply chain security, licensing, inspections, controlled substances, warehouse operations, environmental monitoring, and facility security. Responsibilities include conducting regulatory research, supporting compliance initiatives, assisting with audits and inspections, reviewing operational processes, and maintaining required documentation. The position partners with operations, purchasing, customer compliance, sales, and other teams to promote compliance with applicable laws, regulations, company policies, and industry standards. Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and detail-oriented skills are required, along with the ability to interpret and apply regulations in a dynamic environment.

Job Responsibilities

• Research and interpret federal and state regulations, guidance, and industry standards (e.g., FDA, DEA) related to veterinary pharmaceuticals, controlled substances, medical devices, animal health products, and wholesale distribution. Monitor regulatory changes, evaluate operational impact, support policy and procedure development, provide internal regulatory guidance, and assist with compliance investigations and issue resolution.
• Conduct compliance reviews of warehouse operations to ensure adherence to regulations and company procedures, including oversight of pharmaceutical storage, temperature and humidity monitoring, environmental excursions, quarantine, recalls, returns, destruction, and product disposition processes, and support facility audits and corrective actions.
• Support DSCSA compliance activities, including transaction data review, serialization, EPCIS data exchange, product tracing, trading partner verification, exception management, and documentation retention, while assisting with issue resolution involving suppliers, customers, and service providers.
• Prepare for and support regulatory inspections (e.g., NABP, DEA, State Boards, FDA) by compiling documentation, coordinating responses, tracking corrective actions, conducting internal audits, and supporting inspection readiness activities, including periodic travel to facilities.
• Support compliance for controlled substances by monitoring suspicious orders, security requirements (e.g., access controls, alarms), and diversion prevention, while reviewing adherence to DEA regulations, company procedures, and assisting with security investigations
• Assist in developing training materials, communications, reports, presentations, and documentation, while supporting compliance projects, process improvements, and special initiatives to enhance regulatory compliance and operational effectiveness.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of pharmaceutical wholesale distribution regulations, DSCSA requirements, or other regulated industries preferred.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Bachelor’s degree from a post-secondary education institution Business Administration, Regulatory Affairs, Supply Chain Management, Healthcare Administration, Life Sciences, or a related field preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a professional business environment.
• Experience in regulatory compliance, pharmaceutical distribution, healthcare logistics, quality assurance, or another regulated industry preferred.
• Experience researching and interpreting regulations, policies, or legal requirements preferred.
• Experience supporting audits, inspections, investigations, or compliance programs preferred.
• Experience with warehouse operations, pharmaceutical distribution, controlled substances, or supply chain compliance preferred.
• Experience with DSCSA, serialization, track-and-trace requirements, or EPCIS data exchange preferred.

• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
• Ability to read, understand, and interpret laws, regulations, policies and procedures, operating instructions, and technical documents.
• Ability to learn and utilize compliance, licensing, warehouse management, and supply chain software systems.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate regulatory requirements to various audiences.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
• Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and decision-making skills. Strong customer service and relationship management skills.

Work Environment
Work is typically performed in an office environment Monday through Friday. Working more than 40 hours per workweek may be required. On-call reliability may also be expected.
